Why spring is the most beautiful period on Karpathos

Of course, Karpathos is always enjoyable, but spring is extra special. The temperature shoots up, but it is still quiet and incredibly green. What more could you ask for?

#1 Abandoned beaches (without beach beds and umbrellas!)

Yess! Surely this is enjoyment! In spring, the season on Karpathos for a part has not started yet (usually so late April/early May) and so the beach beds and umbrellas are not on the beaches yet. In this period there is even a good chance that you can sit on the beach all by yourself, how cool is that! Your own private beach ;). We ourselves have regularly been on vacation in early May even sat alone on the big beaches on Karpathos like Kyra Panagia and Diakoftis!

#2 The weather is perfect in spring!

Whereas in summer it can get quite hot and (on the Afiartis/Arkassa side) also quite windy on Karpathos, spring is perfect. Around 20 degrees (sometimes 25 degrees in early May). Here and there some clouds and okay, sometimes a chance of rain, but that too is part of spring.

#3 Everything is in bloom in spring on Karpathos

After (mostly) a rainy winter on Karpathos, the island is in full bloom in the spring. This changes quickly once the rain stays away and the temperatures rise in summer, but in spring you can still enjoy this to the fullest!

#4 Perfect for activities

Whereas in summer it is easily 30 degrees, in spring it is much more pleasant. With around 20 degrees and frequent cloud cover, this period is perfect for activities such as hiking, mountain biking and climbing.

#5 Peace

Although Karpathos is not yet a vacation destination experiencing mass tourism, it is certainly busy during the high season. The beaches on Karpathos are crowded and also the restaurants are full. Those who choose to go to Karpathos in spring, however, have all the peace and quiet. Think deserted beaches and no chaos in Pigadia 😉

The BIG downside…

These were 5 reasons why Karpathos is beautiful in spring. Unfortunately, there is also one big disadvantage to spring on Karpathos. This is because the temperature of the sea water is not so warm yet. From mid-May, the seawater becomes more accessible. If you really come just to float in the sea, consider whether September is not better for you then 😉
