Ahata

This beautiful beach is next to Kyra Panagia and Apella and is a 20-minute drive from the capital of Karpathos, Pigadia. Ahata is a small bay, but really beautiful to see! We could stare for hours at the cliffs, they are just so beautiful here? You can enjoy snorkeling and there is a small taverna.

Apella

This beach in the north of Karpathos topped the list of “most beautiful beaches in Europe” in 2002, and we understand! What a beauty this is! It is quite a big beach, with a beautiful blue sea and you can do fantastic snorkeling here. In general, there is no wind on Apella, so it is quite warm – especially in high season. From the capital Pigadia it is a 35-minute drive to this beach, but you can also get there by boat.

Diakoftis

Diakoftis beach can be found near the airport of Karpathos. The road towards it takes some getting used to, because it is not (yet) asphalted. A 4-wheeldrive is not necessary, with a normal car it goes fine, but with the scooter it is not recommended because of all the loose stones on the road you slip away quickly. Diakoftis is a lovely sandy beach, where you can snorkel and you can walk far into the sea. The airstrip is next to the beach, so you can see the planes come and go, always fun! From Pigadia it is a 30-minute drive.

Kato Lako

For Vincent and me, this beach is really #1 in the list of most beautiful beaches on Karpathos! We discovered Kato Lako in 2018. We never went there before because it is only accessible by 4×4 (or walking). So we rented a quad bike so we could take a look and we immediately fell in love! It is so incredibly beautiful! And because the beach is hard to get to, it’s nice and quiet ?

Kyra Panagia

The beach Kyra Panagia is familiar to many, even if you have never been to Karpathos. In articles online or in magazines about Karpathos you will often see this beach as a photo with the article. From the beach you can take the stairs up to one of the most photographed churches in Greece and from here you also have a fantastic view of the Mediterranean sea! We do want to tell you that Kyra Panagia is incredibly hot in high season, because there is no wind. Rather visit the beach in May/June or October if you don’t like it that much. From Pigadia you can get here in 30 minutes by car, but you can also get there by boat.

Deserted beaches on Karpathos

Although Karpathos is known as a quiet island, this does not mean that the beaches are empty in the high season, even in high season it is nice and busy here. If you are looking for deserted beaches without beds then you will have to search well or choose the right period! In late April / early May, most beaches are still empty and the beach beds are often not there yet. We are regularly alone on the beach during this period!
