Public transport on Karpathos
Buses do not run very often on Karpathos. In low season, buses to most villages run one return trip a day. In high season (mid-June to early September) the buses do run a bit more often, fortunately, but it is still very little. To Kyra Panagia and Apella they still only run once (there and back). Taxi’s on Karpathos
There are not many taxis on Karpathos. I think there are less than 20 of them on the whole island. As far as we are concerned, taxis are not really recommended on Karpathos, but this is mainly due to the cost. Indeed, they are rather expensive compared to other things. It is mostly comparable to Dutch costs as far as we are concerned. . Maybe handy for a ride airport – Pigadia, but I would stop there. At night, a night tariff also applies. How much this is is not entirely clear. Some say 50%, some say €5. By the way, taxis can only be found in Pigadia, so if you need a taxi from Arkassa, you will have to call and you will often get the bill from Pigadia to Arkassa as well.
The taxi stand has recently changed (May 2023). You will now find it no longer near the pita gyros joint Erasmias, but behind the city hall. See below the image of Karpathos Taxi with prices + their phone number.
